The Helen Newton Turner Medal
The Helen Newton Turner Medal perpetuates the memory of an outstanding sheep geneticist, and a fine Australian. The award was established in 1993 following an anonymous donation to the Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit.
The Medal is awarded to provide encouragement and inspiration to those engaged in animal genetics. It is named in honour of Dr Helen Newton Turner whose career with CSIRO was dedicated to research into the genetic improvement of sheep for wool production. The Medallist is chosen by Trustees from the ranks of those persons who have made an outstanding contribution to genetic improvement
of Australian livestock.
The first award of the Helen Newton Turner Medal was made in 1994 to Associate Professor John James, followed by Dr Laurie Piper in 1995. The recipient of each Medal is invited to deliver an oration on a topical subject of his or her own choice. A list of all medalist is on the "Medal Trust and Medalists" page.
2005 Medalist - Dr Keith Hammond

The 2005 Helen Newton Turner Medal was awarded to DR KEITH HAMMOND at the 16th conference of AAABG at Noosa Lakes, Queensland in September 2005.
